Erno Rubik, a Hungarian Professor of Architecture and Design.

It is a puzzle with a color on each side which comes in four widely available versions: the 2×2×2 ("Pocket Cube"), the 3×3×3 standard cube, the 4×4×4 ("Rubik's Revenge"), and the 5×5×5 ("Professor's Cube").
The idea is to twist any side to rearrange the colors so that each is left with a solid color.

Erno Rubik had the first idea in spring 1974.

Erno Rubik invented the cube by accident. He was looking for an innovative method to teach his students about 3D objects. When he saw how much the students loved this little cube, Mr. Rubik decided to market his invention to the world.
He called his invention "The Magic Cube".

1 month. Before he did, he wasn't even sure if it was possible to solve his puzzle!
He made several attempts and solves the cube for the first time in summer. The final technical solution was ready at the end of the autumn of 1974.

Zsa Zsa Gabor. Appropriately, they had Hungarian actress Zsa Zsa Gabor launch the cube in America.

The Gordian Knot. In 1980, Ideal Toys was going to call it The Gordian Knot, but someone suggested The Rubik's Cube.
